What is Equine Assisted Therapy?
Equine therapy is a form of animal-facilitated therapy in which clients and therapist work with the horses to improve interactions with those around them, allowing them to make real change.
I have often heard during my work that individuals struggle with sitting in an office and just talking about their lives. Equine Facilitated Therapy allows a unique therapeutic experience out of the therapy chair. The setting of equine facilitated therapy allows each client the opportunity to develop grounding and mindfulness skills that will help them to reconnect to themselves and empower them to take on the challenges of life. The horses provide a non-threatening (and dare I say cozy) reflection to us, guiding us towards feelings and experiences we have buried while minimizing re-traumatization and encouraging safety.
I also utilize elements of Reality Therapy, CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing techniques. I firmly believe that every individual is unique and am committed to continuing to develop my own education to provide my clients with the best support for their personal journeys.
